Wurundjeri
Biik Baan

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 2025

The Indigenous Garden is a living tribute to Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country. Local plantings and cultural interpretation carry the stories and history of this landscape and its First Peoples, offering a place to learn and reflect on what it means to care for Country and its waterways.

‘Wurundjeri biik baan’ is a celebration of Water Country, and an opportunity to experience a sliver of the interconnected swamps, rivers and marshes that defined Naarm/Melbourne prior to colonial settlement. It is an invitation to imagine the land as Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung ancestors lived it, and a call to heal and care for Country and its waterways. Embedded is the eel (iuk) story, symbolising seasonal change and the enduring connection to Country.
