Strathfieldsaye is on Dja Dja Wurrung Country of the Djarra people. Djandak (Djarra Country) around Bendigo is defined by box-ironbark forests and mountainous outlooks across the grassy plains of the surrounding regions.
Bendigo Creek and its ‘chain of ponds’ are also typical of these low rainfall areas with ephemeral streams that maintain water in deeper pools.
This garden design takes inspiration and expresses bands of these place-based characteristics, that not only form a backdrop to outdoor functions but also integrate a productive garden and generous native lawn.
