| ‘Unmapping/ Remapping’ |
| Workshop and exhibition at 3553 Gallery |
| Centred on Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung Country, specifically Yálla-birr-ang and Ngár-go (Collingwood and Fitzroy), this workshop and accompanying exhibition is an invitation to actively engage with the hidden cultural, spatial and ecological histories of the land we stand on. Much of how we experience our neighbourhoods is dictated by graphic interventions, ecological absence and cultural storytelling, frequently embedded in public wayfinding and placemaking systems. Working directly with curated archival materials, we invite workshop participants to think about how creative practice can subvert these spatial cues. The workshop and exhibition is a space to learn, question and apply creative thinking to our own lives. Using the historical insights provided, and drawing on personal knowledge, participants will create co-designed counter-maps and wayfinding interventions, reimagining how we acknowledge and carry these narratives forward. The accompanying exhibition pairs public archives with collaborative, creative responses, offering alternate ways to see, feel and live in our shared environment.
